Ann Gay’s celestial Criss-Cross binding makes a durable hardcover book with the ease of opening found in a non-adhesive binding. This flowery journal is full of ink-loving paper and is covered with handmade/silkscreened Lokta paper from Nepal. I echoed the brown branches with the color of thread that forms the book’s main structure. Keeping with the natural vibe, I used house-made organic wheat paste as the only adhesive in this batch of books. Paste takes longer to dry than synthetic adhesive, but I love the feel of using it and the results it makes possible. Plus, a little less plastic unleashed into the world can’t be a bad thing, right?
Notebooks made in this fashion are often great conversation starters; just remember to tell the curious folks where you got yours.
